Carla Moultrie is a wife, mother, author, advocate, and corporate professional who passionately champions inclusion and neurodiversity. She serves as a Contracts Manager at GE Vernova with over 17 years of experience in contract management across government, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, construction, and renewable energy sectors. A proud graduate of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business, she holds a Master of Business Administration and is a dedicated member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
Carla’s journey into disability advocacy began in the summer of 2015 when she and her husband, Nathaniel, sought answers regarding developmental changes in their young daughter, Camille. Though initially told she was simply a “late talker,” their persistence led to a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and Sensory Processing Disorder. That moment became a turning point, igniting Carla’s passion for advocacy not only for her daughter, but for families around the world raising neurodivergent children.
Recognizing the lack of accessible, culturally relevant children’s literature about autism, Carla authored Ausome Girl, a vibrant and relatable children’s book designed to help young readers understand both the challenges and the unique strengths, “superpowers,” often found in autistic children. Since its April 2022 release, Ausome Girl has been available through major retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, Barnes & Noble, and Books-A-Million. It is now used in classrooms, pediatric and behavioral health offices, churches, and community spaces across the country to promote empathy, inclusion, and acceptance.
Carla is a sought-after national speaker and presenter, known for her ability to educate, inspire, and equip audiences on topics of autism awareness, disability inclusion, and faith-informed advocacy. She has shared her story and expertise with educators, parents, corporate teams, community organizations, and faith leaders. Her work has been featured on ATL Live, The Portia Talk Show, the nationally syndicated Big Tigger Morning Show, and in publications including Essence, Black Enterprise, and the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business Chronicle.
In addition to her advocacy efforts, Carla serves on the Board of Directors for United Cerebral Palsy of Georgia. She is a graduate of the GeorgiaCAN Special Needs Education Advocacy Program and an alumna of the prestigious United Way of Greater Atlanta Volunteer Involvement Program (VIP).
Carla believes her daughter Camille was divinely entrusted to her, and she finds profound purpose in using her family’s journey to create greater understanding and open more doors for individuals with disabilities. Her hope is that every child and adult, regardless of ability, will be seen, heard, understood, embraced, included, and celebrated.
